The facelifted 2017 Skoda Octavia is on its way

Skoda has revealed the new Octavia with a refreshed sporting style and interior updates as well as upgradation of the infotainment system for 2017. The new Octavia will make its way to UK shores in February 2017 and will start from £17,000.

This is a mid-life Skoda Octavia facelift which will upgrade the hatchback and estate variants of the VW Golf and Vauxhall Astra rival. It retains all the same mechanicals as before as is still based on VW Group’s MQB chassis which means it offers one of the largest cabins in the class.

The facelifted Skoda Octavia also carries the same three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine as this was added to the line-up earlier this year. The exterior is where Octavia has changed as it gets ‘split’ headlights which are close in resemblance to the Skoda Kodiaq SUV. It also has a neat lower bumper section with crisp horizontal lines designed to underline the car’s width.

The engine line-up for UK will have a pair of petrol units and two diesel engines. The petrol engines will be 1.0-litre turbo churning out 114bhp and a 1.4-litre turbo with 148bhp. The Skoda Octavia diesel engines are a 1.6 and 2.0-litre diesel Engine with 114bhp and 148bhp respectively.

The performance Octavia’s, Scout VRS have their own more powerful units and these are due later in 2017. Octavia’s infotainment has undergone a major overhaul. All the systems are offered such as Swing and Balero and the navigation-equipped Amundsen and Columbus now have capacitive touchscreens.

Top of the range Columbus display is now a whopping 9.2 inches which is the largest screen in Octavia. It also offers now a wireless hotspot with an option of a SIM card to share high-speed broadband across the car. The car will also get the ‘Virtual Cockpit’ digital instrument panel which is fitted to the VW Passat and some Audis.

The new tech includes a customised key that can store multiple driver preferences, folding tables in the backs of the front seats, a heated steering wheel and, in the estate, a removable torch in the boot.

Skoda Octavia also gets equipped with new assistance systems which include a trailer assistant which takes over the steering when the car is reversing slowly while towing. There are upgrades to Octavia’s parking systems and they give warnings of oncoming traffic when reversing out of a space.

One of the Octavia’s biggest selling point, its load bay, remains the same. The hatchback provides 590 litres of space with the rear seats in place, although this can be extended to 1,580 litres with seats folded down. The estate has a capacity is 610 litres, rising to 1,740 litres with seats down.  An an electric powered tailgate is optional.

The customers will be able to book the New Skoda Octavia in UK dealers from 1 February 2017, with deliveries starting in March. Prices are expected to stay same as the current line-up, so the basic edition of the hatchback is likely to cost from around £17,000.
