Skoda is going full on after its rivals

The Skoda Octavia is a spacious model with a new 1.0-litre engine meaning the driver has an enjoyable experience and the price is also impressive. This engine is a three cylinder and has been tried and tested, the trend is in with these types of engines and Skoda Octavia has got right in line with the trend. A small engine in a big car has impressed us with its effectiveness and the fun it brings to the drive.

For a car like the Octavia the 113bhp is not as high as we would expect but the torque of 200Nm makes up for it making the whole engine much more usable.

There is a low down option for the torque so there’s enough power to match low speeds and motorway speeds. When going higher it may leave want for a more powerful engine. It takes 9.9 seconds for 0-62mph and although this is not bad, it’s not that great either.

It’s a fun ride for sure and is not too noisy either so the drive is enjoyable from whatever aspect you choose to look at it.

This Skoda Octavia has a six-speed manual full of quality. A smooth gear change system and a light lever with a DSG dual clutch auto also available for an extra cost of about 1,250.

Unfortunately, the CO2 numbers are not that impressive either with a 104g/km figure. With this Octavia model we were expecting something under 100g/km. on the other hand it works out as a cheap car when It comes to taxing whether a company or private purchase. If your driving habits suit this model it could be cheaper to use, then the diesel engine version. With a claimed 62.8mpg if the driver is suited to this model then it’s an enjoyable and affordable vehicle.

The engine is light and feels agile than other Octavia models. Some reviews state the steering as being too light however we think the mix of smooth gearing and the comfort of the seats and positions make a good match for an enjoyable and relaxed drive. If you’re looking for comfort, then this is definitely the model. However, if you’re looking for more than comfort other models might be more appealing to you.

The Skoda Octavia is also a spacious model with a 590-liter boot when the seats are folded. The interior space can be increased to 1,580 litres of space which for a car in this category is an impressive amount. We can’t promise that the engine will be as s smooth with a heavy load but it will do the job.

This Octavia model is only available with two options, the S and SE trims. It may seem plain and simple to some. When compared to modern rivals we have to say it comes across as slightly dull. It may not suit someone looking to impress when it comes to design and style.

There are extra kit options available for this vehicle such as heated seats and a sat nav. To update the look there are smart looking alloy wheels and other options although when it comes to prices we can’t say it’s all impressive. The Sat Nav costs £800 and that’s quite expensive in comparison to other units.
